Queste immagini documentano un percorso diverso da quelli realizzati finora. Il lavoro di Rene Jean è il frutto dell’incontro fra artisti e dell’ispirazione reciproca che ne è scaturita.
This images represent a different path from the others. The work of Rene Jean it’s the result of the meeting between artists and their reciprocal inspiration.
Durante la prima riunione con i migranti, Rene era presente: non ha parlato, ma mi ha subito colpito la sua fisicità. Guardandolo, ho pensato a lui come primo soggetto di un progetto fotografico che avevo in mente di fare qui sull’isola, continuazione di un lavoro sul tema della migrazione iniziato insieme a due artiste italiane.
Lo immaginavo in piedi, con una coperta legata al collo come un supereroe. Dopo la riunione è venuto a parlarci: è un artista, ci dice, ha studiato in una scuola d’arte italiana in Camerun. Ci mostra i suoi lavori. Una scultura di un uomo, in piedi, con una coperta al collo, mi colpisce particolarmente.
Così, iniziamo a parlare delle nostre idee, dei nostri lavori, ce li mostriamo. Come vasi comunicanti a livello sotterraneo: le mie immagini influenzeranno le sue, e così viceversa. Entrambi ne siamo pienamente consapevoli.During the first meeting Rene didn’t talk but I was immediately impressed by his physicality. I immediately understand that he was perfect to be the subject of my photographic project that I was thinking to do here in Samos, as a continuation of my project of migration started with two Italian artists.
I started imagine him as a superhero. After the meeting he came to speak with us: he told us he’s an artist, he has studied in an Italian school of photography in Camerun. He showed us his works. A sculpture of a man, standing, with a blanket tied up to his neck.We started show each others works and talk about our ideas and projects. I know my images will influence his works, and vice versa.
