La storia di oggi è dedicata ai Samos Volunteers, all’Alpha Center e a tutte le persone che ci hanno accompagnato in queste tre settimane sull’isola. Senza il supporto di questa associazione il nostro lavoro sarebbe stato senz’altro più difficile, così come non avremmo raggiunto gli stessi risultati senza la fiducia e la totale collaborazione delle donne e degli uomini che, ogni giorno, scendono dal campo per partecipare alle attività del centro. Alcuni di loro seguono lezioni, altri le tengono. Altri ancora fanno parte a pieno titolo dello staff, dedicando le loro giornate al volontariato. Oggi abbiamo cercato di ringraziarli organizzando una festa in onore di tutti loro: è stato un bel pomeriggio, dalle discussioni sulla scelta delle immagini e l’allestimento della piccola mostra in cui abbiamo esposto i risultati dei workshop, al rinfresco a base di pizza. Una canzone di Gabbani messa a tradimento da Issam, algerino che ha vissuto due anni in Italia, la break dance dei ragazzi afghani, i saluti terminati con un “a presto, inshallah”. Abbiamo voluto chiudere il nostro lavoro a Vathi con leggerezza, perché è stata proprio la leggerezza l’insegnamento più importante che ci hanno trasmesso gli uomini e le donne ospiti dell’hotspot di Samos. Grazie a Bogdan, Giulia e tutti i Samos Volunteers, grazie a Ahmad, Rene Jean, Houssein, Steve, Mustafa, Farzana, Mohammed, Dina e Lina, Rahmat, Mahdi, Majida e le decine di persone che hanno lavorato insieme a noi.

 

Today’s story is dedicated to Samos Volunteers, to Alpha Center and to all the people who have accompanied us in these three weeks on the island.

Without the support of this association, our work would have been more difficult, as we would not have achieved the same results without the trust and the total collaboration of women and men who, every day, leave the hotspot to attend the activities of the center.

Some of them follow lessons, others give it. Others are totally part of the staff, devoting their days to volunteering.

Today we tried to thank them, organizing a celebration in honor of all of them: it was a good afternoon, from the discussion about the choice of images to the setting up of the small “show” where we showed the results of the workshops and the pizza refreshment, the real protagonist of the day. An italian song chosen by Issam, an Algerian who has lived in Italy for two years, the break dance of the Afghan boys, the greetings ended with a “see you soon, inshallah”.

We wanted to close lightly our work in Vathy, because lightness was the most important teaching  that the men and women staying in Samos’s hotspot gave us.
